The Russian deputy transport Minister, Valery Okulov, during a press conference hosted by Ria Novosti, stated that Russia might eventually use for the aircraft biofuel made of sawdust that wouldn't only pollute less, but would cost less also. And not because it would be cheaper (the costs of this kind of biofuel would not be much lower), but because it wouldn't not be subject to the environmental taxes. "We have a Country full of forests and plenty of sawdust; why not make biofuel from it as an alternative source of energy," Mr Okulov would have said. According to AvioNews, it seems that the ex-Soviet Nation is currently focusing on biofuels. In September, the "Russian technologies corporations", a state-owned Russian company, had announced the Country's plans to build, starting from March to April of next year, of its first biofuel plant in Siberia. According to local press reports, the head of the company Sergei Chemezov stated, at the time of the announcement, that "Wood chips, knots and roots will be processed to produce the biobutanol necessary to create new modern fuel", he said, specifying that biobutanol based additives are currently required in many Countries with a percentage of 10-15 per cent.
