The consortium has developed a bio oil production process in which a pyrolysis reactor is integrated into a power boiler. In UPM the production of bio oil would be integrated into UPM's own biomass based power plants. Pilot testing started in 2009 in Metso's Research and Development Centre in Finland. The end product has already been tested in one of the Fortum's district heating boiler plants”.
