The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers announces that the first seven international standards in the rapidly expanding industry of solid biofuels have been published. In addition, work has also begun on part eight of the series.

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announces that the newly published documents are as follows: ISO 17225 Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes — Part 1 General requirements; Part 2 Graded wood pellets; Part 3 Graded wood briquettes; Part 4 Graded wood chips; Part 5 Graded firewood; Part 6 Graded non-woody pellets; and Part 7 Graded non-woody briquettes. The new project, Part 8, will cover thermally treated and densified biomass fuels
ASABE is accredited by the American National Standards Institute as the administrator for the U.S. technical advisory group to the ISO committee on solid biofuels, TC 238, which was established in 2007 in response to growing global trade in the subject commodities.

The Bioenergy International Russia organized the first seminar about development of Russian standards of solid biofuels in 2007. Today some Russian standars which are mostly translated from European standards are created and published.
